December 2009

December brings lots of presents!

on Wednesday, 2nd December 2009 - 7:44

We received our boxes which managed to unpack (flinging all clothing into two of the empty boxes) and finally filling our book shelves and kitchen cupboards with all of the long awaited books and implements. We finally have winter coats and otherwise 'warm' clothing!

Maya & first snow fall

First proper snowfall

on Sunday, 6th December 2009 - 8:57

Maya and I had our first snowfall last night.  I'm not sure what she makes of the white stuff except that it is cold. It was nice to see the white landing on her black coat.  This morning taking her out and she wasn't quite sure where to 'do her jobs' until necessity called for it and she realised she could!  She's pretty prim and proper so I'd say she didn't want to mess up the white stuff.  Had a play date with a Vischla named Isabella.  Now I'm sure she'll sleep it all off.

Playing house... ;)

Its amazing how the sound of keys and the door opening will get Maya off her bed and to the door in 1 second flat.  Whereas, calling her by name and going over and poking her has the effect of her rolling over on her back and exposing her belly while all the while sleeping with no intention of getting up.

Christmas coming up quick!

on Monday, 14th December 2009 - 15:47

Looking forward to the food and sights of Toronto for Christmas! For the time being we're satisfying ourselves with our glittering Christmas tree ornament, the Christmas wombat, kinder sheep, and miniature wish bear!

Setting up a Charity Donation Box using Ubercart, Realex, & Ubercart Donations

on Monday, 14th December 2009 - 16:00

It has been awhile since I've posted anything technical!

I'm working on adding a donate feature to the Sunyata Retreat Centre website.  This involved downloading the latest Ubercart module for Drupal 6.x and looking up all the modules that may or may not help in setting up the feature.

Troubleshooting the Charity Donation Box using Ubercart, RealEx, UC_donation, Uc_addresses

on Tuesday, 15th December 2009 - 13:35

Currently troubleshooting the website - making sure the links to the response messages and emails are all acceptable and make sense.  Spent quite a bit of time to realise it was my site's fault that new users were being pointed to the wrong address to login.  Then there was the issue of - do you create new userids for anyone who puts in a donation?  If so, how do we tie the address they have entered in ubercart to that of their profile?  After some careful searching I found reference to the UC_addresses module.  T

Creating a 'booking' type form for retreats in Ubercart

on Tuesday, 15th December 2009 - 18:31

What do you do with a tortoise stuck in its shell?  You walk around it and occasionally poke at it with a stick which will either have one of two responses of either it'll stick it's head out or stay stuck.

This is my description of the problem of creating the right user experience / interface for creating a booking form.

Back home for the holidays!

on Wednesday, 23rd December 2009 - 13:04

Reached Toronto via various interstates where the speed limit appeared to be a 'suggestion'.  Curious why both the US & Canada don't just increase the rate (but I suppose the habit of going 10 above the limit...

Baking for the holidays.. ;)

on Tuesday, 29th December 2009 - 15:38
Having a splendid time at home, today was preparing some snacks for New Years - featuring rice crispy squares, chocolate chip brownies, lemon squares... earlier we made milk toffee, potato toffee, and Christmas cake. Still may make sugar cookies and Oatmeal chocolate chunk c/o Quaker.
