*Cough Cough* Six weeks?!

on Monday, 5th December 2011 - 9:29

Another week to go on my recovery from surgery - which reminds me... when the doctor says "six weeks" does he mean "six weeks" and where did he come up with that number?

So my searches on both Google and Bing pulled up no answer.  Do I feel up to getting back 100% yet?  Not quite.  I have become more active and flexible.. but I'm still feeling aches if I do too much.

Disqus

on Monday, 5th December 2011 - 20:19

OMG where have you been? Disqus is a comment manager that is available for use with Drupal, Wordpress, Tumblr, Blogger, Joomla, MovableType, TypePad, etc.  Disqus even supplies some universal JavaScript code to make things easier for independent web sites.

Failure to launch

on Tuesday, 6th December 2011 - 10:03

It's not often that failure is reported.  Well, I failed big time.  I re-created a website to which the masses responded but to which the owner did not like.  In this case, it did not matter that the content was easier to update.  That files were easily added or removed.  What mattered was that the theme did not seem sufficiently akin to the old theme nor was it possible to properly understand the requests of the site owner.

Boston Drupal Meet Up

on Tuesday, 6th December 2011 - 20:14

Took advantage of our volunteer babysitter and finally ventured out to the Boston Drupal MeetUp since before I got pregnant.

Enjoyed working with Daniwhayes and ronaldmulero on Drupal 8 help documentation. We even submitted an issue.  The plan is to continue working on help documentation until the Colorado DrupalCon.

Just say "NO" to Skulls & Crossbones for kids...

on Thursday, 8th December 2011 - 8:56

Yesterday went shopping and for the n'th time... I encountered lovely clothing but utterly destroyed in my eyes by the prominent skull and crossbones that designers seem to think is fashionable.  It's supposed to be 'rockstar like' claimed the manager of the local Kids77 store.  I was apalled.  I'm sorry, rockstar to me implies a sense of unique fashion.  Considering everyone from independents to the chains are all putting these little symbols on children's clothing - you have got to be kidding me!

RDFa/Schema.org: Adding a machine readable page about myself

on Friday, 9th December 2011 - 20:39

Make a page for myself that provides semantic information to pass to the machines. *Insert creepy music here* Steph (a.k.a. Scor) has been working on several projects over the years that have resulted in the addition of RDFa to Drupal 7, a module (or two) that use this RDFa to provide information that the machines can read. Since I usually need to explain to people (and christmas IS around the corner) what it is my husband does... trying to follow his instructions on his recent screencast should suffice for this year's training.

Resulting advice to scor: "Simplify the experience. I don't need to be creating all of these magical fields if I can simply select the text in the body of my node and add an 'annotation' that will configure the schema.org setting. This way, I can select my name and annotate as 'person'. I can select some text and annotate as 'description'... and so on and so forth. "

Wishing I could... Knit Lace

on Sunday, 11th December 2011 - 22:12
I was just sent a link from Aubrey at StarShaped to a wonderful site showcasing different knitting projects with an earthy nature feel. The site is by southernselkie. I WISH that I could knit like that! For the moment all of my projects have been relatively simple involving very little manipulation.

Goal: Within the next three years to learn how to knit lace.

Re-launching SWSA.semanticweb.org...

on Wednesday, 14th December 2011 - 23:46

Here's a small contract that I was recently hired to complete.  The transfer of an old html site into Drupal 7 (via Drupal Gardens).  I had fun playing around with a simple theme that would suit a site that is essentially listing conferences and the activities of the Semantic Web Science Association

As this is a site that lists their conferences and the history of the conferences, a bit of time was spent perfecting the different views and determining what information was relevant to SWSA.
