Learning Curve for Popular CMS

on Wednesday, 18th January 2012 - 14:36

I really like the Learning curve for popular CMS proposed by Artur Cistov in 2011.  For most people it seems quite complicated after the initial installation and messing about.  However, thanks to tools like Drupal Gardens, it may just yet reach the everyday user.  To date, it's easier to use wordpress and the like for blogging.  But I like to think that I may be one of the dead bodies being pushed along (and possibly falling over the edge).  The problem is everything moves SO quickly! Already there are Drupal 8 sprints happening and there are yet to be many Drupal users yet to enter the world of Drupal 6 let alone Drupal 7!  And yet, Drupal as a whole needs to compete with developments in technology - such that - becoming easily mobile being one.

All in all, I like that you don't have to re-invent the wheel.  I like that with each iteration, it seems to get better and more useful and easy to use.

Thoughts on K-man turning One...

Another day passed and overnight, he's sounding more and more like a little child and less and less like a baby....

Farewell Mamie Thérese

on Sunday, 8th January 2012 - 11:35
I've known my husband since 2005. Soon after we began dating, I had the pleasure of meeting the sweet old lady who was his grandmother. She startled me within hours of my first day in Kersava by asking me to 'Sit Down!' in English rather strictly. She had been asking me to sit down in French and with my thick head failing to understand, resorted to the language she had secretly learned during the German occupation days (hiding her books under a heavy milk pot in the corner of what was the kitchen). This calm and polite lady was a dear to behold.

Re-launching SWSA.semanticweb.org...

on Wednesday, 14th December 2011 - 23:46

Here's a small contract that I was recently hired to complete.  The transfer of an old html site into Drupal 7 (via Drupal Gardens).  I had fun playing around with a simple theme that would suit a site that is essentially listing conferences and the activities of the Semantic Web Science Association

As this is a site that lists their conferences and the history of the conferences, a bit of time was spent perfecting the different views and determining what information was relevant to SWSA.

Wishing I could... Knit Lace

on Sunday, 11th December 2011 - 22:12
I was just sent a link from Aubrey at StarShaped to a wonderful site showcasing different knitting projects with an earthy nature feel. The site is by southernselkie. I WISH that I could knit like that! For the moment all of my projects have been relatively simple involving very little manipulation.

Goal: Within the next three years to learn how to knit lace.
